Kauaʻi Maile — A Symbol of Honor and Connection
The maile lei has long been associated with respect, honor, and ceremony in Hawaiʻi. Worn by chiefs and presented during sacred moments, the maile represents unity, strength, and deep connection to the land.
This design is inspired by the traditional Kauaʻi-style maile and mokihana lei, known for its natural structure and bead-like mokihana berries woven along the vine.
Rather than recreating the lei literally, this piece translates the geometry and spirit of the lei into a modern wearable form.
The result is a shirt that feels both cultural and contemporary — rooted in island tradition while designed with the clean aesthetic of modern Hawaiʻi.
